Is rap poetry?

Hip-hop (also called rap) is a music style in which the most important aspect is the message you transmit, with a base behind your voice which has to follow it. But these last years a lot of rappers thought that they were more than that and they called themselves “poets”. How much truth is in that?

As there was a lot of controversy with Bob Dylan and his Nobel Award, some rappers called themselves poets or at least they pretend to be one. That’s the case, for example, of Nach, a Spanish rapper who wanted to become a poet and, well…he got stuck on the way. Besides all this last “trap” thing, which is the inverse of rap( a low base and someone saying stupid things at the back) in which the trappers pretend to believe that they are the Mozart’s of the XX century, the rap thing has declined a lot. Most of the rappers had stopped recording or if they still, they had sold themselves to the system, which for me, it’s crap.
